Xenoblade Chronicles coming only to "New 3DS"

The Wii's Xenoblade Chronicles is heading to 3DS, but it will only be compatible with the recently announced New 3DS and New 3DS XL.

It will be the first of possibly many 3DS games that will be exclusive to the "New" model of 3DS because of its superior CPU.

The New 3DS and Xenoblade Chronicles have only been confirmed for Japan.

This isn't the first time Nintendo has limited games to a specific variant of a handled. Downloadable DSiWare games were not compatible with earlier models of the DS, and there was the whole Game Boy Color situation.

You know this got me thinking. Seeing as xenoblade is a wii game and they are "porting" it to the new 3ds, does that potentially mean we could see other wii games and even GameCube games ported as well?

Maybe they are saving that forever rumoured majoras mask remake for this new hardware. Imagine playing games like mario sunshine and twilight princess on 3ds.

That would be dope. Might not happen but I'm hoping it does.

@surfdude - I'm thinking the same. The New 3DS could play Wii games and that's just amazing.

Though I don't want them to give up on the New 3DS and bring out another superior console in a while either.

I was always surprised there was no Majora's Mask on 3DS - could it really need more power? I mean, it did need the Expansion Pak, but Ocarina was overhauled a fair bit, so I assume 3DS as is would be powerful enough to run it at least as it was on N64, if not with the same remastering OoT got.

The thing with Xenoblade Chronicles is it isn't that visually a taxing Wii game. I mean, sometimes there's a fair bit happening, but it's not that pretty of a game. Would this New 3DS really be powerful enough to run something like Skyward Sword or Metroid Prime 3?

Yeah who knows? They haven't really shown how powerful the new 3ds will be. Time will tell
